Greetings! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, filled with familial love, deep joy and just enough chaos to keep you grounded.
For this blog, I did a different type of podcast; I created this podcast without a script. Why? Well, I truly wanted to speak from my heart to yours today. So, when you have time, I invite you to listen to this blog via this podcast:
If you prefer reading, here is a summation:
Many of you know how much I love the New Year. January 1st is truly my favorite day of the year. I love thinking and reflecting on what was and projecting and planning for what will be. As I have been preparing for January 1, 2023, I’ve been thinking about three areas of my life and frankly, I’ve been wondering how I can make them stronger. If I don’t make them stronger, I’m afraid two of them will fray beyond repair. Well, how do you make three separate strands stronger? You braid them together. That thought has fascinated me. Three into one. Whoa. Okay, I love that “Trinitarian” idea. Here are my Three Strands:
I’ll start with number one: The Self-Care Train Wreck. As many of you know, I started teaching school this year. Working full time has totally changed the dynamic in my home, heart and life. I’ve been shocked at how little time I have had for Taking Care of Lori. It’s like I have been running and gunning for the past five months, and I don’t like it. I've been in survival mode. It's not been pretty. I have to change how I live. What does that mean exactly? Well, I know I cannot do it all, so I have to step back and reassess my life. What is most important to me and to my family and how can I build a life around those areas? That process does not scare me, because of my second strand in life, which I discovered last summer through the guidance of my friend, Barbara Leonard; she helped me to understand that I have the (somewhat odd) charism of knowledge. Now, this does NOT mean I am super smart, it just means that I have a God-given thirst for information. When Barbara showcased that for me, I was incredibly grateful because I have always considered this a weird part of my personality, something that was almost insatiable within. I mean, first of all, I am always thinking deeply about life. I continually want to improve. That’s freaky to some. How do I work to improve? Well, I research. I will easily read ten or twenty books on a subject. And then this other weird thing happens: I have to share the information with others or it feels like I will combust. I asked Barbara what that was about. She laughed and said that is part of the charism. She told me that the Gift of Knowledge is about being able to take in a ton of information, distill what's most important and share that effectively with others. People with this gift usually have some sort of platform to share, because they HAVE to share. It's a thing. Okay, so how do those two strands work together? I have a need for more intentional living AND I know how to learn, apply and share information. Well, I’m going to go on a lovely five-month jaunt of Intentional Living and you are invited to join me, which brings me to Strand #3: The Future of the Parenting Dare Ministry. There is a cost involved in blogging and I can usually cover those costs by selling courses and giving retreats, but that has diminished due to my teaching. This 5-month journey of working on creating a life that we truly love is the way I am going to cover my operating costs. It will allow me to "keep the lights on." If you are interested or intrigued by the idea of more intentional living, please seriously consider joining me; in the next FIVE MONTHS, I am going to very intentionally work on IMPLEMENTING supportive routines and rhythms for my life (and yours). What will this involve? To be honest, it will involve focusing on you. This isn't about scarcity or shame or striving. It's about being who we really are. Find out more:
