This weekend my girls had Prom. With our family. At home. Six of my eight children are no longer in their school setting. They are working/learning virtually. They are participating in Zoom meetings. They are on "screens" many hours a day. Everything has changed.
My biggest concern is the amount of screen time that every child is now expected to "put in." Why am I so concerned? Well, I have a lot of knowledge about screen time and the developing brain. I know the "pull" of the online world. For the past several years, my oldest son, Eric, has worked with me in the arena of proactive parenting with The Parenting Dare. We help parents navigate these waters. I sent out an email to my community last week, asking them their greatest concerns in these times. Every reply spoke about their children's increased time on computers. They wanted to know how to keep their children and grandchildren safe in the online world. They wanted ways to stay connected as human beings. As I was receiving and reading those heart-felt emails from the parents in my community, I received an email from Chris McKenna.
Who is Chris McKenna? First of all, he is a caring, Christian parent. Secondly, he is the Founder and CEO of "Protect Young Eyes." He works hard every day to keep kids safe in the digital world. Eric and I appreciate his work because he stays current with technology and the trends. He knows what apps are safe. He is a fantastic resource for parents. He is also evidently possessed with super powers because he has whipped together a powerful resource called Pandemic Parenting. What is it? "A FREE online conference offering practical advice, interviews, and videos from leading experts on digital safety, mental health, education, parenting and more!" Every day this week (starting Monday, April 20, 2020) Chris and his team of experts will offer expert advice to help parents, like you and me, with all of the new challenges we are facing. Chris does everything top-notch. He knows his stuff. We are grateful for his willingness to put this online conference together so quickly and The Parenting Dare is a proud affiliate of this conference. Find out more: Pandemic Parenting. Feel free to share this post with any of your proactive friends that want to invest intentionally in their families at this time. Free
