I have never spent as much time writing a post as I have for this one. In the last four days I have written and deleted, over and over. Which means that I am still processing. Last night, before I went to sleep, I wrote out these questions on the notepad beside my bed:
I woke up early with some big thoughts. Friend, the only thing that truly makes sense to me right now is the long view. We are an eternal people. This is not our real home. We have probably been lulled into a sense of security over the past decades; we’ve had it so peaceful and plentiful. The stock market was stable, we had good jobs. Our kids had schools to attend. We had toilet paper. But is our security - in the truest sense of the word - even about those things? This world, as good as it is, is not.our.homeland. We are just visitors passing through. Security is not going to be found in stockpiling rolls of toilet paper. You were created for much more than that. But if we rely on ourselves, that is what we’ll become. We’ll be crazy, panicked stockpilers, constantly worried and anxious. Take the long view. You are incredibly secure right now. Why? Because you are significant to the One that created you. He knew everything that would be happening in your lifetime. He knew your exact circumstances. He knew it all. If you are feeling overwhelmed or nervous, stop plugging into the media. Start plugging into your True Source of Power. He has been waiting for you. He wants to give you peace beyond your understanding, a peace that the world does not know and cannot give. He wants to give that to you. How do you get it? You get quiet. You surrender your self-reliance and you invite Him to be King of your life. Be open and honest. Speak from your heart…. “Dear heavenly Father, I have been scared over the past few weeks. I don’t understand what is going on in our world but I am starting to realize that I don’t have to understand anything. I just have to know and trust You, who knows all. I am sorry for the ways that I have tried to do this myself. I submit myself and my family to Your Loving Care. I trust you with all. Take care of us and guide us. I ask this in Your Son’s Name, Jesus Christ.” The cool part about Christianity: when we go to the Power Source, He fills us with everything we need. As we do that, we will actually become much more than our normally darkened selves; we’ll actually become a light. Let me ask you a silly question. If the electricity went out in your house at night, what would you do after you turned on your heavy duty flashlight? Would you throw it under your rug so that it becomes part of the darkness again? Of course not. You’d put it on the kitchen table or in your living room, so it could guide your people, right? The world has gone dark. Go to the True Power Source. Get filled with Him. Once you have Him radiating in you, He will be able to use YOU to guide others. I know with every fiber of my being that He has specific things he wants you to do and say and be right now. We are all so different and He will inspire each of us on how and where He needs us to shine in the upcoming weeks and months. Social distancing does not mean social disengagement. He knows the loneliness and need in the nursing homes near you. Those men and women were used to visitors in and out. They are now on lock down. He will inspire some of us to do something about that. Maybe you are a troop or group leader of some kind. He may inspire you and your group to become pen pals with the men and women in a specific nursing home. He knows every single person in your neighborhood. He knows their anxiety and their fear and their worry. He will inspire some of us to do something about that. Maybe you and your kids will write out Scripture quotes and tape them onto the doors of your neighbors. Maybe you will put a bottle of wine on a neighbor’s front porch along with a note telling them how much you appreciate them. He knows every single person that has to be at work right now. He knows the anxiety and fear that fills their hearts as they go into the public, to be of service, for others. He will inspire some of us to do something about that. Maybe you and your children will take your sidewalk chalk and go to your local hospital and write out words of appreciation for all of the nurses and doctors that walk into those doors, putting their health on the line. (My sister is a nurse in Texas and that’s what some amazing people did outside of her hospital. She said it was totally inspiring.) He knows the anxiety in the hearts and minds of all of the parents that now need to homeschool. If that is you, He will definitely inspire you to do something about that. He knows your children better than you do. He has ways He wants you to build into your kids in the next several months. Creative, fun, innovative ways. He wants you to use this time to bring peace and joy to your family and He will help you with everything.
You and I just need to plug into our True Power Source. He has the whole world in the palm of his hand. Become a Light. You were born for a time such as this. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13. Can I get an Amen? P.S. We must know we are children of God in order to act like children of God. Read more about that in My New Conversion.
